December 2016 Principal's Message
Happy Holidays from Homestead and congratulations on the approaching end of the first semester! As the 2016 year starts to wind down, we know that this can be an especially trying time for students as they prepare for finals, await college acceptance letters, manage the highs and lows of the season, or all of the above. The Fremont Union High School District has put a considerable amount of resources at our sites to help our students with their social or emotional needs, so I would encourage you to contact any of the following staff members at Homestead to ask questions or to seek help for our students. The students can also approach our staff and do not need to wait for an adult to refer or recommend them. Here is a quick list of staff should the need arise:

In reality, you can contact any adult on our campus to ask questions or seek out help for your student so please feel free to reach out to whomever you feel most comfortable doing so.
If you have not already seen the finals schedule, please click this link. Finals start on Tuesday, December 12th and continue until Thursday December 15th. There is a teacher work day on Friday the 16th but students are officially done on the 15th and return on January 3rd.
So while 2016 is drawing to a close, there are many exciting things to come in 2017!
The Wellness Committee is in the final steps of preparing the results of the survey that students, parents and staff participated in during the month of September. We should have results for your review in January. Once those are distributed and the results studied, the committee will be presenting the findings to the school board with the hopes of developing next steps. Having looked at the preliminary results myself, I can see that there are some important discussions to be had very soon with all stakeholders.
The Anti-Defamation League will be training our Freshmen Homeroom Advisors in early January with their Anti-Bias workshop where we will work to create a more inclusive culture and respectful school climate by addressing issues of bias and bullying. The advisors will begin using some of the ADL curriculum as part of second semester homerooms.
The course registration process for the 2017-2018 school year will begin in February and March with presentations for all grades as well as visits to our feeder schools. You can see a full schedule if you click on the links above for our Guidance Department
Homestead will be hosting a school board meeting on March 7th in our cafeteria, which is a great opportunity for us to highlight the amazing things that our students and staff are doing on campus. We will be honoring retiring teachers, the teacher of the year, the classified staff member of the year as well as recognizing other outstanding adults and student groups who epitomize our Mustang spirit and pride. These honorees have not been chosen at this writing but stay tuned for a full list as we approach that date.
Work is scheduled to begin at the end of the school year on our new Innovation Hub building, which will replace the existing F building. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the I-Hub is the first project of many that will continue to goal of updating our campus and offering our students the best facilities in which to grow and learn. The I-Hub will house Visual Arts, Business, Computer Science and include a maker space to house our Auto and Robotics programs as well as a new space for large group meetings and presentations that will also serve as a student meeting and collaboration area. The existing F building will be torn down the day after graduation with construction to start sometime in July or August. The building has an expected completion date of December 2018.
Following the completion of the I-Hub, we will be looking to add a new Guidance Student Services (GSS) building where the D Building currently stands, which will be empty after Visual Arts moves to the new building. The GSS building will house Guidance, Attendance, Registration, School Climate, Administration and other departments that currently reside in the first floor of the A Building. This new building will also help us create a new front of school that should make the office easier to find for guests and visitors. Once the first floor of A is cleared, we will convert that space to classrooms. All together, we should be adding 10 to 12 new classrooms as well as modernizing the look and feel of the campus. These two projects have expected completion dates in 2020 and 2021.
